Everyday life
In praise of the overlooked.
Some things only reveal themselves when we slow down. An essay on the quiet richness of ordinary places.
There is a window on the way to the station that I have passed a thousand times. A plant leans toward the glass. Each morning its leaves seem to have moved a little further into the light.
For years I considered this an unremarkable detail. Then, one morning, I stopped. The window had become a small record of time: a new leaf, a turned pot, the changing angle of the sun.
Attention does not require a distant destination. It asks us to meet the familiar without deciding in advance what it has to offer. The ordinary world is still there, patiently making itself available.
